Episode 3 – 5/28/2007
Guests: Matt Mickiewicz and Mark Harbottle, SitePoint.com co-founders
Background: developers and entrepreneurs
Total Time: 30 minutes
To say I was excited to speak to these two gentleman would be an understatement. I discovered SitePoint.com about 5 years ago while I was still in college, but finally joined 4 years ago. Since then I have been a pretty active member there and haven’t felt the need to join any other web development forums. The thing that really made me stay there was the community feel that exists. I’ve always been impressed at how strong the community is when they have over 150k members.
In this interview, Matt Mickiewicz and Mark Harbottle tell us how SitePoint.com started and how it grew from its grassroots to the thriving web community it is today. They really do demonstrate why the forum has retained such a community feel by showing that members come first.

Great job Sara!
Obviously, we at Search-This are big fans of SitePoint and the model they have established on how to grow a community.
SitePoint does a great job providing free, relevant content to webmasters. Search-This hopes to follow in their footsteps.
Mark and Matt are on the opposite side of the globe from each other and you are in the middle! Isn’t the web wonderful!
Talk about two different accents, a Canadian and an Australian… That almost sounds like the start of a joke 🙂

Hi,
your podcasts do really sound interesting, but I fear there’s no way that I’m going to hear these from within the browser.
I hope you’ll soon get an archive section for these!

@FrankB: We will have a Random Bits main page within a week or two that will allow you to download them and subscribe to a feed and we are also working on putting them on iTunes. Give us a little more time. Thanks.

Hey Will. As with anything this is a learning process. If you listen to the latest podcast, I think you will hear it much better. Unfortunately I am not a sound editor so am learning as I go along. If you have any experience or advice you would like to share, that would be great!

Hey Will, sorry about the volume, I know it gets low at times – we are still learning the podcast thing. Did you listen to the Peter Flaschner podcast? The volume seems to be better there? We will get better in the future.
