Do you remember when someone used the webdev toolbar to help hack an application? Can you say PITA?

I've always had it installed and use it a lot, especially to outline the block level elements . I do find myself using Firebug more often though. Nice post and I'm excited for the series!

I've been using this for a while, and by god do I love it, and I use it once every 5 minutes on an Internet Browser (hmm.. I wonder if this website's CSS validates *click*)

As for Firebug, I must have been missing something, I didn't find it too helpful?

I used Web Developer Firefox extension as well as Firebug, but 2 weeks ago, my Web Developer Toolbar just stopped loading itself and not showing any icons. I tried to disable/enable it, and then uninstall/install again, but with no luck. :(

The good news is, Firebug still works.

I should have added 'View Generated Source' and made it my top 6. I do a lot of AJAX and being able to see the source of what I'm looking at versus the source of the initial HTTP response has helped me out tremendously.....

Good choice for the start of this series. I too use this plugin and love the Outline Block Level Elements and the Display ID & Class Details.

I also used the View Response Headers for this <a href="http://www.search-this.com/2007/06/27/microsoft-iis-vs-apache-who-serves-more/" rel="nofollow">article </a> to show the web server.

I find I don't use the webdev extension as much anymore because I instead use Firebug for a lot of stuff.

The bits I do still use are:

1. resize screen
2. validate HTML & CSS (both external and local)
3. display line guides (good for lining things up)
4. disabling js, CSS and images
5. I still use the edit CSS pane if I want to copy a site's CSS quickly (usually when I'm troubleshooting other people's pages on forums etc.)
6. viewing response headers
