But really, they had no other choice - Web Application (HTML5) will appear sooner or later, Microsoft is trying hard to push Silverlight everywhere (and Windows Mobile is pretty widespread), open standard fanatics rave about unusability and unindexability of closed standards and try to promote SWG and whatnot.
